Announcement

In order to enhance the relationship between Taiwanese American and the community where Taiwanese American lives and to provide encouragement and inspiration of young Americans to excel in leadership, community services as well as academic achievement, the Taiwan Culture Center (TCC) of the greater Washington area is proud to sponsor the “Taiwanese American Community Scholarship Award” for 2009. The TCC Board of Directors (BOD) would like to invite all qualified senior students to apply for this scholarship before the deadline.

The application process, qualification and judging criteria are listed below:

Qualification & Application

· Only US citizens or permanent residents are eligible to apply.

· All graduating high school seniors of the chosen school are eligible to apply. One or more awards will be given to each chosen school, provided there are sufficient applicants from that particular school.

· All graduating high school seniors in the Washington DC metropolitan area who are not from the ten chosen school are also eligible to apply. There will be one or more awards in this (At-Large) category if there are at least five applicants in this category.

· The “Taiwanese American Community Scholarship Award” is open to all qualified students from all ethnic groups.

· The application package will be sent to each area high school selected. The application forms will be available through email request as well. The official email address for the request will be TaiwanCultureCenter@yahoo.com.

· The deadline of application is April 22, 2009 (postmarked).

· The award recipients will be informed before the end of May.

· The award will be presented to the recipients by the representative of the TCC BOD in the high school award ceremony.

· The applicant shall provide a copy of the application form and each of the following documents:

1. One recommendation letter in a sealed envelope from the applicant’s guidance counselor or teacher

2. One official high school transcript in a separate envelope.

3. List of community activities and Services that the applicant had participated including the duration and frequency

4. Resume including extra curricula activities

5. A written essay of no more than 500 words on “Your Most Rewarding Experience of Participation in Community Services.

· Applicants are encouraged to download the forms and submit them electronically via email except Items 1 and 2 which should be mailed to TCC via US Post Service.

c. Extra Curricula Activity (15%)

d. Academic Achievement (15%)

e. Essay (10%)

Award

A plaque and $500 or more – one or more awards for each high school. The winner will be informed via high school guidance counselor by May 31, 2009.

舉辦2008『台美人社區獎學金』頒獎典禮

計有12位高中生獲獎

華府台灣文化中心舉辦的一年一度的『台美人社區獎學金』(Taiwanese American Community Scholarship Award)，開放給所有高中四年級學生申請，2008年的結果已出，恭喜12位高中生得獎

華府台灣文化中心每年固定舉辦音樂會，除了讓愛樂的同鄉可以不用進城到甘迺迪中心，就可以欣賞到同樣等級的音樂外，文化中心也利用音樂會，介紹來自台灣的傑出音樂家。

華府台灣文化中心歡迎大家一起來參與音樂會，如果您是愛樂者或是您的孩子正在學音樂，請不要錯過一埸音樂盛宴，記得帶您的家人及朋友一起來欣賞。文化中心也特別優待學生免費欣賞，有意參加的學生，請先電話文化中心理事以登記人數。

音樂會的門票收入全數做為台灣文化中心建館費用，台灣文化中心建館工程雖然艱鉅，但是深具意義。文化中心非常歡迎更多各地熱心的鄉親來參與、支持這個非常有意義的工作，共襄盛舉，希望大家做陣來打拼，慷慨解囊，以便早日募足資金，完成大家所期待的台灣文化中心的擴建會館工作。所有捐款可享免稅 (CFC #7716)。文化中心設有永久會員辦法，您若捐款總額超過五千元，即自動成為永久會員，享有多重福利，包括您的大名將鐫刻在新建會館中，名留千秋萬世 (目前已有40多戶永久會員)。
